Job Title: Chief Financial Officer

Overview of the United Soccer League (USL)

United Soccer League is one of the largest operators of soccer properties in the United States. USL currently owns and operates a Division II professional league (USL), a Division III professional league (launching in 2019), a pre-professional U23 league (PDL), and an elite level youth soccer league (Super Y League). Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, the USL provides unparalleled club support with a growing team of more than 50 professionals across 17 departments, ranging from operations to digital, communications, and club services.



Position Purpose

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the development and oversight of overall financial policies for USL. The CFO will provide strategic direction of all financial functions that support USL's overarching business strategy and ensure that proper financial controls are in place. This is an exempt position and will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.



Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Lead the corporate accounting function.
Prepare financial statements and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position. Ensure integrity of all financial information under US GAAP.
Lead the controllership function and oversee the monthly, quarterly and yearly close process.
Lead the external reporting function.
Create value-added disclosures and discussions of Company's business trends and financial results in the company's audited financial statements.
Manage the external auditor relationship to ensure continuous improvement keeping the company ahead of the curve in terms of developing GAAP and its impact on accounting and financial reporting.
Oversee all operational accounting functions such as billing, accounts payable, equity administration and accounting, accounts receivable, payroll, etc.
Prepare and present financial materials to Ownership.
Partner with the Legal team to assure compliance with federal, state, local and corporate policies, regulations and laws.
Research and analyze accounting matters. Evaluate current accounting practices and policies and drive continuous improvement.
Support special business development projects such as mergers and acquisitions and divestitures: deal evaluation, structure, purchase accounting and due diligence.
Oversee the Corporate Strategy team on forecasting and business planning & operations.



Qualifications

A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience
CPA required; Big 4 public accounting a plus
Previous experience as the Corporate Controller required; Controller of a publicly traded company a plus
Strong technical accounting skills; a thorough knowledge of GAAP, with an emphasis on revenue recognition
Leadership skills to develop and strengthen the accounting team
Knowledge and/or experience with transforming an accounting organization with better tools, shorter closing cycles and a shared service implementation
An unblemished record of accurate financial statements
Possess personal and professional integrity
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to succinctly articulate business issues to finance and non-finance audiences alike
Ability to meet deadlines and provide prompt, insightful responses to internal clients, the accounting and finance staff and external partners
Experience utilizing systems and tools to drive process improvements and change
The ability to work and lead independently yet partner and collaborate effectively
Patience coupled with the ability to drive urgency when appropriate
Comfort with establishing & functioning within tight controls
Ability to work as business needs require which at times may include long days, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays
Must have U.S. work authorization
